We love telling you the most about ordinary everyday life in Kasisi, about the seemingly small things when there is no rescue action, illness or drama with the children going on. Showing off how, for example, a few days ago the aunties arranged a pizza party for the children and how the babies moved to a new race track, replacing the boring asphalt with “off-road” driving.

It is moments like these that most powerfully demonstrate the meaning of the work we do together with you. This is what we want to achieve with it: to create the conditions for our kids to develop peacefully every day, peaceful days filled with little joys, school and playing with their friends.

However, there are also moments working in Kasisi when one can just lose hope… The sisters, with your help, do everything they can to warm the wounded hearts of the children and make sure that none of them lacks anything. And then this happens…

One of the older boys (for his sake we will not show a photo or give his name) went home for the holidays. Everything seemed to be going well: the boy was very keen to visit his family, who had pledged to give him the best welcome they could. There were also no formal contraindications to the visit, which the boy was eagerly looking forward to. After a month he came back sick and in a terrible condition… He said that he was often beaten… In the end he whispered to Sister Mariola that from now on Kasisi was his only HOME.

The boy will be back to full health in a few weeks, but this is another wound in the heart that will take a long time to heal. We know that in this case, the sisters are doing everything they can to pour an ocean of love into this heart and to rebuild a sense of security.

The whole world (or at least the world of Zambian children) should be like Kasisi, we know. But what else can we do but save the little hearts that were torn apart by adults, step by step every day. Fortunately we have you, who know how necessary such a place is in the world. You understand perfectly well that Kassisi is not about events and one-off fundraisers. It is a responsibility spanning many years – for our kids to have something to eat, medical care, something to play with, a place to learn and a place to sleep. So that the sisters do not have to worry about how to pay for something, but focus on what no money can buy – giving love and raising our children.
