Don Bosco Boys is a unique place in Kasisi. It is home to the oldest boys. Walking by, one can hear music; everyone is doing some chores around the house.
The boys spend their free time on benches outside, playing chess or painting. The benches, arranged in a circle, also serve as a meeting spot with Sister Naomi, who is responsible for this group. The boys often talk about life, their plans and dreams, but also about their worries and troubles.
On Sundays after mass, in their elegant shirts, they let the music take them away and dance their choreographies. It is a great honor for them when guests come to see their performance.
Don Bosco is a place where responsible young men grow. Some of them work on the Jesuit Fathers’ farm. Over there, they can earn their own money, which they keep in the best bank in all of Zambia, in Sister Mariola’s wardrobe 馃榾 The interest may not grow, but the cash is safe there. After each day’s work, the boys add their earnings, count the total, and proudly boast to Sister Mariola how much each one has saved. With this money, they can buy something they dream of.
This is what Kasisi is all about; it provides tons of love, care, and support, but also teaches responsibility and diligence. It does not only give them a fish, it also teaches them to fish; ensuring that the lives of these young people will be better, teaching that they are the ones who can change their world 鉂わ笍
A school kit includes notebooks, allowing children to study at home. It also includes a pair of shoes, which, if not for Kasisi, they would have to borrow from their siblings. And finally, a delicious, healthy sandwich in the backpack, which gives them the energy they need for their studies. Just like the sandwich their mother would prepare. You can pack one into their backpack today鈥攆rom right here, from your own home.
