It is hard for us to believe that three years have just passed since the death of Chris Sakala.
Chris lived like any other teenager. He had his passions. He loved playing football and joking around with his friends. He was beginning to make plans for the future. When the diagnosis came – acute leukaemia – the boy started fading from day to day. We fought for him with all our strength, trying to move heaven and earth. Unfortunately, chemotherapy and intensive treatment did not work. The opponent was too strong. After a month of fighting, we lost Christopher.
However, we did not want evil to have the last word in this story. After his death, we set up the Christopher Sakala Fund. It has a specific purpose: to support children with cancer who are disadvantaged and cannot afford treatment. We wanted the avalanche of good that you set in motion when Christopher was fighting for his life to go further. We wanted it to reach those to whom no one reaches out with help.
A few days ago, Sister Mariola visited the oncology ward again. This time we are helping a seven-year-old boy who is fighting melanoma and his two-week-old little brother, who is spending the first days of his life with his mother and brother in the ward.
