Dear friends!
The end of the year is a time to reflect on the past year. For us, it’s also a time to express our gratitude. It is hard to put into words how grateful we are that you stood by our side in this difficult, frightening year. You never wavered in your support, making sure the children of Kasisi felt safe and protected throughout these challenging times. For this, we are eternally grateful.
As you wrap up the year and start to make plans for the next 12 months, we ask that you keep us in mind and continue to support us in our efforts in the year to come. We cannot do it without you.
If last year caused you to question the value of kindness, just remember the 240 children at Kasisi who were able to go to school, receive medical care and live in a safe, loving home thanks to your donations. We raised a total of half a million dollars this year ($499,750 to be exact) for the Kasisi orphanage – $80,000 more than last year. We also spent $35,000 sending two of our former residents to a university in Poland.
Your generous support allowed us to take in 34 children in 2020. By supporting one of them through the Adoptions from the Heart program you let them know that you would be there for them, which is priceless.
Every month, we prepare 20,000 meals for the 230 children at Kasisi. We provide ongoing medical care to 60 residents. We pay for the tuition of 21 gifted students who attend the country’s best boarding schools. We work hard to meet all of their needs. We’re with them through difficult times, such as health problems, and we support them in fulfilling their dreams.
60 children are in preschool, 30 in kindergarten, 104 attend elementary school, 19 go to high school, and 10 attend college. 5 of our residents are at university, including James and Eva, who will graduate from medical school in Poland this year. John and Jacob just graduated from agricultural college in Lusaka with a major in soil science and are entering adulthood equipped with a solid education as well as the confidence that comes from being told from a young age that they are loved and valued. We just renovated one of the boys’ rooms, furnishing it with new beds, wardrobes and desks. We also made over the dining room and the children’s kitchen. We were able to organize a memorable Christmas celebration and buy gifts, including school supplies, for all children.
That’s not all! Thanks to the Christopher Sakala Fund we have been providing care outside of the walls of Kasisi. So far, the fund has allowed us to help 116 patients. We bought them food and medicine, paid for their chemotherapy, bandages, clothing and other essential items. We also got toys for sick children and bought them balanced meals. This may not have been the safest or happiest year, but thanks to your support, we were able to continue our work.
We wish you only days full of bright moments in the New Year. Fewer worries, lots of health and joy, and that you experience the same type of kindness and generosity you show Kasisi. We hope you stay with us for another year. We cannot do it without you! Happy New Year!
A school kit includes notebooks, allowing children to study at home. It also includes a pair of shoes, which, if not for Kasisi, they would have to borrow from their siblings. And finally, a delicious, healthy sandwich in the backpack, which gives them the energy they need for their studies. Just like the sandwich their mother would prepare. You can pack one into their backpack today—from right here, from your own home.
