We need to show Melody that she has not been left alone

At the end of May, a several-day-old baby came to Kasisi. A premature baby. A beautiful girl, whom we named Melody.

Her story would probably have been completely different, if it had not been for the fact that her mother was taken to the NICU right after the caesarean section, with no signs of life.

When the baby was brought to us, we thought it was only for a few days – or at worst, weeks. We waited for her mother to wake up and come to take her daughter home.

Today we already know that this will not happen. The woman died. It was not given to her to welcome her child into the world, to hug her and tell her how much she had been waiting and how happy she was that they could finally see each other.

Today we have an important task. We have to show Melody that she has not been left alone, that we will take care of her, that we will love her. That she will be able to move mountains because she has good people around her. And I am talking about you.

Towards the end of writing this post, I realised that Melody was born on the 19th of May, which is when I was. While I was blowing out the candles on the cake (there were quite a few already), a baby was being born on the other side of the world. So I decided to become her first adoptive parent and invite you to join me in taking care of the little girl and making sure she doesn’t lack anything.
