Many of our youngsters need much more than a calm, safe home or love and care that puts wind in their sails. They need professional help and patient, sometimes very difficult work. We are talking about children with special needs.
The special needs group is not all that small. Since Kasisi has been called the best and most exemplary institution of its kind in Zambia, social services have been referring children with developmental disabilities there. Kasia Stęgowska, our delegate and specialist in special education, has been working with them for almost a year. Kasia really works miracles here, teaching basic concepts, reactions, independence, reading and speaking to our most demanding pupils. The effects are wonderful, for which Kasia deserves our deepest respect today.
The children love Kasia and we are grateful for her mission. Kasia spent this morning working with the preschoolers.
A school kit includes notebooks, allowing children to study at home. It also includes a pair of shoes, which, if not for Kasisi, they would have to borrow from their siblings. And finally, a delicious, healthy sandwich in the backpack, which gives them the energy they need for their studies. Just like the sandwich their mother would prepare. You can pack one into their backpack today—from right here, from your own home.
