Doris 20 y/o

12
Birthday: 05.05.2004
With Kasisi since: 07.10.2005
Doris ended up in Kasisi after her mother died when she was just one year old. Kasisi’s not just a home for Doris – it’s quite literally her only chance for survival due to her many health problems that would’ve gone untreated otherwise. She requires not just medicine, her recovery also depends on love, warmth and support – at Kasisi, we meet all her needs.

How am I doing?

MARCH 2024
Since January, she is a proud ninth-grade student. She spent the holidays with her uncle and experienced a real transformation. During this time, she became more open, started talking about her emotions and experiences. It's clear that she is maturing and becoming increasingly aware of herself and her feelings.
JANUARY 2023

During the summer holidays, her fate was at stake. There was a risk that she would not pass the academic year. We waited for the exam results in great suspense. It would have been the end of her education. Fortunately, everything worked out. Doris passed the eighth grade. She smiles a lot. She is very helpful, and likes to help in the kitchen the most.

JULY 2022

She is in the seventh grade. She is a special school in Lusaka and comes to Kasisi for weekends and longer holidays. Her favourite subject is maths, and she really enjoys helping out in the kitchen during her stay in Kasisi. Her best friend is Rachel. Doris' biggest dream is to become a sign language interpreter and work in television.

JUNE 2021
She goes to school and is in the sixth grade. She has changed a lot: has grown up, become confident and more open. She likes maths, but in the future she wants to be an English teacher.
MAY 2019
She is in the fifth grade and is chronically ill. She belongs to the choir and likes sports.
She is also very calm and bright.
DECEMBER 2016
Her medical test results are good and it seems like her health has stabilized. She enjoys helping the sister prepare medicine for other patients.
JUNE 2016
She's in the third grade and her health is much better. She is a lot stronger and no longer gets sick.
DECEMBER 2015
Doris's physical and mental health has improved considerably.  Her liver problems have subsided and her depressed mood has lifted. She is a lot more outgoing and sociable and smiles more. Sister Mariola tries to keep her engaged by taking her on shopping trips to Lusaka and excursions to Chaminuka. Doris is also doing very well in school.
MAY 2015
Doris's health has improved considerably. She has also grown a lot. She enjoys helping the sister distribute medication in the morning and evening.

Urgent help needed

Passport to the Future – Donate a School Starter Kit

A school kit includes notebooks, allowing children to study at home. It also includes a pair of shoes, which, if not for Kasisi, they would have to borrow from their siblings. And finally, a delicious, healthy sandwich in the backpack, which gives them the energy they need for their studies. Just like the sandwich their mother would prepare. You can pack one into their backpack today—from right here, from your own home.
