Her parents passed away, leaving her and her twin brother orphaned. Although she had extended family living in Lusaka, they showed no interest in keeping contact with her or offering help. Her brother was luckier—he was adopted by a Zambian family. Rita found refuge and a new home at Kasisi. She is an extraordinary girl—exceptionally intelligent, active, and full of energy. Her passion is dancing, and her remarkable sense of rhythm can be admired during every mass, where she puts on a true dance performance in the front row on the left side, captivating everyone with her grace and enthusiasm. Unfortunately, some time ago, Rita experienced a painful disappointment. With hope in her heart, she went to stay with her extended family, believing she would find a true home and support from her relatives. She dreamed of a life full of love and stability. Sadly, the reality was different. The family did not provide her with proper care and, what’s worse, did not send her to school, which was a significant blow for her. She had to return to Kasisi. Currently, Rita attends a boarding school, where she can grow and acquire knowledge. At Kasisi, she has found not only a roof over her head but also people who support her and care for her future.
A school kit includes notebooks, allowing children to study at home. It also includes a pair of shoes, which, if not for Kasisi, they would have to borrow from their siblings. And finally, a delicious, healthy sandwich in the backpack, which gives them the energy they need for their studies. Just like the sandwich their mother would prepare. You can pack one into their backpack today—from right here, from your own home.
