Taonga found not only shelter but also a chance to rebuild herself at Kasisi. Evacuated by social services from a dangerous family environment, she had to face a long process of adaptation and trauma healing. Despite the passage of time, traumatic memories still haunted her, reminding her of a past that cannot be entirely erased. These moments of fear and uncertainty hindered her ability to fully enjoy life. However, with the surrounding care and support, Taonga has the opportunity for a fresh start. Currently, the situation at her home has improved, allowing her to make the decision to try living with her family again. This is an important step in her journey towards normalcy and building a stable future. Despite these advances, Taonga still needs our support and care. Our presence and commitment are the foundation upon which she can rely on her path to mental health.
A school kit includes notebooks, allowing children to study at home. It also includes a pair of shoes, which, if not for Kasisi, they would have to borrow from their siblings. And finally, a delicious, healthy sandwich in the backpack, which gives them the energy they need for their studies. Just like the sandwich their mother would prepare. You can pack one into their backpack today—from right here, from your own home.
