Tebi came to Kasisi along with his twin Joseph and their older brother Gift. Their mother, having left them in the care of their grandmother, suddenly disappeared without a trace. The grandma, struggling with her own problems, showed little interest in her grandchildren. Perhaps she was preoccupied with working at the market in Lusaka, which led to the boys ending up on the streets. They were found 50 kilometers away from Zambia’s capital, abandoned and lost. Initially, they were taken to another facility, where they were the only children. The lack of peer companionship and suitable conditions led to the decision to move them to Kasisi. Here, they finally found the warmth, safety, and love they so desperately needed. It was here that they began to rebuild their lives, surrounded by support.
A school kit includes notebooks, allowing children to study at home. It also includes a pair of shoes, which, if not for Kasisi, they would have to borrow from their siblings. And finally, a delicious, healthy sandwich in the backpack, which gives them the energy they need for their studies. Just like the sandwich their mother would prepare. You can pack one into their backpack today—from right here, from your own home.
