Today, we have some bad news to share with you – the third wave of the pandemic has just hit our home. Out of the 56 tests we’ve done so far, 32 came back positive. Others haven’t been tested yet but are exhibiting symptoms. It’s impossible to isolate the sick from the healthy as virtually everyone has been exposed to the virus. Even sisters and staff have been infected.
The outbreak likely originated in a nearby school, where 100 children and teachers tested positive for the virus. In response, sisters introduced distancing measures at Kasisi to protect our youngest and most vulnerable residents.
Luckily, we managed to visit Kasisi just as the situation was becoming worse. We were able to bring a supply of medicine with us but it’s quickly dwindling. Sister Mariola, who has already recovered, is doing everything she can to restock medical supplies. Unfortunately, prices of some medicines went up just before the third wave. She works alongside Lawson, a heroic nurse who hasn’t left his post in days and looks after the sick day and night. The sisters also receive support from Poland. They are in touch with a doctor who prescribes medicines and orders tests, which are carried out at the on-site House of Hope hospice.
We’re worried about the sisters but thankfully they seem better today. We hope it stays that way. Send your thoughts and prayers and, if you can, support our work. In these difficult times, Kasisi needs you. As always, we will keep you updated on new developments.
What can you do to help? Help us supply essential medicines to Kasisi in a time when we cannot afford to run out. We are grateful for every donation and prayer, and hope that you share the message with your friends and family. Thank you for your support!
